Lazarus at the Gate

The Boston Faith & Justice Network offers Lazarus at the Gate workshops,

shorter intensive sessions that present some of the material covered in the small group curriculum in an interactive larger group format.

Workshop Description:

We cover the four major themes from Lazarus at the Gate in a dynamic, seminar-style context.

How do we thoughtfully give to address global and local needs?

Workshop Format:

These workshops are adaptable to various timeframes and audiences.

Group Activities

Scriptural Reflection

Multimedia Presentations

Through small group activities, reflection on scripture, and short multi-media presentations,

we challenge each other to consider the call to a dynamic lifestyle of generosity in pursuit of a just world.

The Sacred Economy: Cultivating Generosity

This interactive workshop offers a comprehensive introduction to a counter-cultural understanding of money and generosity. Through a variety of engaging methods, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the challenges of consumerism and scarcity, explore ways to respond with biblical wisdom, and examine the biblical foundation for a generous economy.

Workshop Description:

The Sacred Economy explores the complex relationship between money and faith, participants will:

Consider the lived reality of financial pressures

We'll delve into the daily struggles and systemic influences that shape our relationship with money.

Hear narratives and biblical examples

We'll incorporate stories and scriptural teachings that illustrate both the dangers of greed and the power of generosity.

Discuss ways to respond

We'll explore practical and compassionate ways to support a more generous and equitable economy within our communities.

Examine the Biblical foundation for action

We'll explore relevant scriptures and theological principles that guide a faith-based response to financial stewardship and generosity.

This workshop, which is customizable for 1 to 3 hours, utilizes a variety of interactive learning methods including:

Providing foundational information about biblical principles of money and generosity.

Engaging activities to promote personal examination of financial attitudes.

Facilitated conversations to explore personal perspectives and challenge assumptions about money.

Case Studies/ Biblical Examples

Sharing powerful stories and insights from scripture and real-world scenarios.
